Agility (2 sessions)
This workshop is for the students who wants to have fun with their dogs and learn more about the dog sport agility. It is a great confidence builder for timid dogs, an effective way to build focus and impulse control around distractions and a wonderful relationship building activity for the entire family to do with their dog that you can continue to practice in your home environment with some open spaces and a creative mindset for building your own course.
We encourage the entire family to attend! The first session we will get the dogs comfortable with the equipment and the second class we will have them complete mini-courses and continue working separately on obstacles the dogs find a bit challenging.

Capturing (1 session)
This workshop will focus on the powerful learning that happens through capturing. We will talk about what it is and why it is so effective. This is an under-utilized training approach that will help you reach your training goals much faster than if you would only depend on cuing your dog to offer good behaviors. We will select useful behaviors and work on capturing those. We will also discuss in class what are behaviors you would like to see your dog offer more of and how you can capture and build more of those behaviors in your every day life. The skill, which we will work on in class, is to see beginnings of small behaviors, how to not ask for too much and how to assess when it is time to push and request more…practice makes perfect! You will get a dog that will choose to make good choices because you have communicated to her that it pays off until it becomes a habit.

CGC Prep (1 session)
The Canine Good Citizen test (http://www.akc.org/dogowner/training/canine_good_citizen/index.cfm) is a great goal to have for you and your dog. It is anationally recognized test that can give you a greater choice for finding apartments for rent, access to public places, some hotels require it, and it is a prerequisitefor several dog therapy programs. The test covers some very basic behaviors but it can be stressful when you go through the test for the first time and you only get one shot at it. If you fail you need to retake the test at another time. This workshop is for those of you who feel they could benefit from some prep work, the person who wants to have a better understanding what the test entails or for the person who knows they need some extra practice in some areas. In the first part of the workshop we will cover what the exercises are and in the second part we will spend time practicing on the behaviors your dog needs extra assistance with.

Crate Training (1 session)
Do you want to make sure you start this right with your puppy and/or do you find this to be a great struggle with your newly adopted older rescue dog? The crate is a great tool if used responsibly and will help keep your dog safe and handle a situation better in other contexts outside of the home (vet's office, groomers, boarding or daycare environment). Dogs, however, do not come crate trained. it is necessary to follow a process to make sure the dog is comfortable with it every step of the way and do not develop negative associations to the crate. We will cover everything from the very basics on how to start it right as well as trouble shoot and work with those of you who have a dog that has developed an aversion to his or her crate. For this workshop you are welcome to bring your own crate and/or we can provide you with one in class. Note: If your dog has separation anxiety crating may not be a suitable option and this workshop is not intended to deal with that behavioral issue.

Distracted Dog (1 session)

This workshop focuses on adding distractions in the environment to proof basic behaviors the dog already knows. We will create a lot of different distractions in the class room using ourselves, props, sounds and the other dogs in the class room to build more reliable responses with the basic cues the dogs have already learned. We will strive to challenge each dog at their own level.Prerequisite: This class is for dogs who have graduated to Level 2 in our Levels program or have taken another basic obedience class.

What is the best way to make sure the baby and dog can coexist peacefully? In this workshop we will cover three main topics: (1) Evaluate your dog: What are things to look for in your dog to know what may be trouble areas that you need to invest some extra work in? (2) Preparation: How can you make the transition as smooth as possible between before and after baby? (3) Build a good connection with emphasis on together but separate: We offer positive, practical, and fun solutions that will help you include your dog once baby arrives and set up the baby and dog for a good relationship for many years to come. We end with Q&A.

New! Dogs & Toddlers® (1 session)
This workshop is for families with dogs and babies who are soon to be crawling or walking or are already doing so. Often the first 3 months have gone smoothly and many families are caught off guard when their dog begins to show discomfort with the new developmental changes of their mobile baby. (1) Define the trouble situations for your dog: How can you immediately manage these situations? (2) Building quality time together: What are activities you can engage both the dog and child with so both feel safe and have a good time in each other’s company? This workshop offers insight and proactive options for some of the common challenges families with dogs experience as baby becomes mobile. We end with Q&A.
