Description
Although it's wonderful when our friends and family love our dog. Sometimes your dog does not love them. Sometimes your dog doesn't want people in their home. For these dogs, we will discuss managment techniques that reduce the times your dog is uncomfortable. We'll talk about equipment and work on exercises that will show you best practices for handling your dog in people-heavy and challenging situations. An emphasis will be placed on dog body language. What is your dog saying about this experience?

- Does your dog lunge and bark at people on the street?
- Does your dog cower when someone looks directly at them?
- Has it felt like your dog never met a human they initially trust?
- Are you uncomfortable having people over while your dog is at home?
- Has your dog put their teeth on skin of a family member or stranger?

Note: Student dogs may be able to see each other during class. If your people reactive dog is also dog reactive, please start your journey with Dog Reactive Part 1 before attending People Reactive. Otherwise, there are no prerequisites for People Reactive.

Description
Some dogs who are genetically predisposed to fear, lack appropriate socialization, are bred to be alert and vigilant, are living in an overwhelming environment, or have experienced trauma, adjust to the environment in ways that are inner focused. Rather than bark and chase, they will hide and cower. They may experience frequent digestive issues and may dabble in self-harming. These dogs often feel they lack control over their world. They would benefit greatly by being exposed to situations in which they have agency, a sense of control. In Confidence Building, we will show you ways to have your dog interact with their environment while continually giving them an opportunity to opt out. We will focus on different ways to expand and flex their mind in order to get them to open up and enjoy life.

Description
Whether you have taken our Confidence Building class in the past or you see it might be in your future, this is the perfect workshop for you! Fear presents itself in different ways. Each dog has a unique response to fear and each dog may experience fear in different ways. Your dog's history plays a part and so does the environment. We will be mindful of the presentation of fear in the dogs attending and will alter the discussion and content accordingly.

During the workshop, we'll have an opportunity to observe and discuss body language that can reveal the various ebbs and flows of a fearful experience. We'll talk through things you can do today to reduce your dog's experience of fear. Even though we'll only have an hour, we'll expose you to the concepts of desensitization and counter conditioning. We'll give you an example of how to start and how to continue the process of changing your dog's emotion about specific triggers or triggers in general.

Description
When dogs bark and lunge while on leash, it is an uncomfortable time for the dog. It is also uncomfortable for others involved. In the Dog Reactive course, we will expose you to and practice ways to reduce the frequency of outbursts. We will explain the value of reducing overall stress by using management in your home. We will use body language to identify the moment before the bark so you can take action early. And yes, there will be other reactive dogs in the room. The dogs have visual blockers around their home cubby and will be out on the floor when ready. Having other dogs in a controlled environment and coached by trainers is a perfect way to set up desensitization and counter conditioning.

Physical exercise is an important part of keeping your dog happy and healthy. In this course we will explore how to safely utilize your environment for fun and exercise. We will teach the dogs how to navigate various obstacles and household items to build confidence, body awareness, and optimism. In this course, we will go over the training concepts that we use to build a new behavior; luring, targeting, and shaping. Description
In addition to positive reinforcement training (in general), getting dogs to use their noses has had a grand upgrade in the last decade. There have been dogs formally trained to detect explosives or contraband, dogs formally trained to trace a being's location or find cadavers. In more recent years, humans are realizing just how fun this can be for dogs and are developing more and more ways to engage the dog's nose. There is not a ton of research, but anecdotally, we've seen behavioral changes in dogs who take our scent work type classes. We've seen impulsive dogs become focused while on the floor searching. We've seen dog reactive dogs have a place they and their people can go to have fun since there are no other triggers as dogs are working solo while searching. We've seen tail-down, slow-moving dogs become tail-up, fast-paced dogs when they are on a run.

In our Scent Work 1 course, we set up activities where your dog's nose is the leader. Your dog's nose is a much more capable machine than humans have between our eyes. These activities start with your dog finding food in boxes. As the weeks progress, the activities will become increasingly challenging for your dog and will be adjusted to your dog's capacities and interests.

Description
Off-leash dog play can be magical, as long as you are able to communicate with your dog in a way that overrides the distractions of being off-leash and being in the middle of a high arousal activity. In this class we will expose you to ways of broadening your dog's attention on you so you will be a part of their play experience. The fastest way to be successful is to start slow.

In this first part, we'll be working on everything distracting while on leash. The focus will be recall, retrieve, and relaxation to mimic the energy ups and downs of playing off-leash well with another dog. We'll work on coming when called, especially away from exciting things, like a dog playing. We'll develop a bit of regulation by injecting settle in between high arousal toy play. During the development of these skills, we will be working within barriers and on leash. Off-leash will be explored in Part 2, using the barrier to enclose multiple dogs playing. In Part 1, we work to develop and improve skills around rambunctous other dogs. We start by teaching you how to be in tune with your dog rather than relying on over-bearing cues. Instead you'll be strategically reinforcing your dog for paying attention to humans around distractions and when excited.

This is a two session workshop with the focus on applying the skills taught in the Loose Leash Walking workshop to real life outdoors. Each session begins with some prep work inside the facility and then we take it on the road. In addition to working on foundation behaviors on the walk we will also incorporate good manners around other dogs and people. This workshop is a great precursor to the City Walks class. Please note that we will be outdoors for better part of the session and will only cancel in case of inclement weather.

Description
This class is designed for puppies and their specific needs. At this age, emphasis should be on building comfort with the world through positive interactions at a level they are upbeat about, also known as socialization. This is also the time to set up good habits early on and bond with your young dog. In this course, we will show you how to teach your puppy skills and manners for everyday life, as well as how to build your puppy's confidence and independence in the world through engagement activities. Puppies will be introduced to skills like how to respond to their name, come when called, walk on a loose leash, and greet people politely. Depending on the participants and the progress of the lesson plans, we may be able to get some puppy off-leash play. For a bunch of puppy play, check out our Puppy Socials, where we provide group play situations, another key to getting your pup the experiences they need.

Description
Off-leash dog play can be magical, as long as you are able to communicate with your dog in a way that overrides the distractions of being off-leash and being in the middle of a high arousal activity. In this class we will expose you to ways of broadening your dog's attention on you so you will be a part of their play experience. The fastest way to be successful is to start slow.

In this first part, we'll be working on everything distracting while on leash. The focus will be recall, retrieve, and relaxation to mimic the energy ups and downs of playing off-leash well with another dog. We'll work on coming when called, especially away from exciting things, like a dog playing. We'll develop a bit of regulation by injecting settle in between high arousal toy play. During the development of these skills, we will be working within barriers and on leash. Off-leash will be explored in Part 2, using the barrier to enclose multiple dogs playing. In Part 1, we work to develop and improve skills around rambunctous other dogs. We start by teaching you how to be in tune with your dog rather than relying on over-bearing cues. Instead you'll be strategically reinforcing your dog for paying attention to humans around distractions and when excited.

Description
The emphasis of this workshop is how to effectively meet and greet other dogs on leash. This workshop helps you determine in advance, if your dog should or should not meet the other dog. Our goal is to help your dog remain calm and responsive when they see, walk by, or meet another dog. But what if the other dog does not want to meet? What if your dog doesn't want to meet? How will you know? We will help you assess the situation and your dog while practicing skills on how to keep your dog's attention while the other dog to calmly pass by.
